The Jungle Book REVIEW

The Jungle Book
By: Rudyard Kipling
Pages: 277
Publisher: Tor Books

This edition of The Jungle Book includes a Biographical Note, Foreward, Preface, and Afterword by Jane Yolen.

I chose to read the Jungle Book for my English book analysis paper :)
I'm glad I did.
The Jungle Book is a collection of short stories, but they all take place out in the wild. The most famous ones are about Mowgli and his adventures in the jungle, how the other animals react to having him there etc.

This is not like the Disney movie version. Baloo isn't as free spirited as in the movie, and Mowgli doesn't really dance around.
It's a very powerful story though, that reflects how our society is build today. If you are looking for a book that will be fun to read but at the same time leave you with a lot of political questions this the book for you to read!

The Jungle Book VS. The Scarlet Letter.

And so the battle between two classic novels begin.

I have to read a classical novel for my English class. Even though books from the 1800 aren't really my thing I'm not complaining.

I'm supposed to review the book afterwards, and we all know that I could probably review a book in my sleep, but this review requires more... thinking. I need to dig deep and really analyze it; I have to think about political issues too and how this book might have reflected the society etc.

My English teacher told me that The Jungle Book would be easier to analyze because it's about a boy who's been cut out from the society completely, and when he tries to be like the "normal people" he just can't because he's been growing up without all these norms etc. That is very topical if we look at our society, we are so far from our true nature that we possibly could be.

But then we have The Scarlet Letter on the other hand that's about this woman who sleeps with married men and the town makes her wear this letter on her jacket or something so that people know it's "that scandalous woman".
I REALLY want to read this book, because that book seems very scandalous and dangerous, and that makes me wan't to investigate it even more.

I don't know, I have a tough decision to make haha... either way I could always read the book I choose not to read this time on my spare time... since that's what I do. I read ahellova lot. And I love it.

A Christmas CarolBy Charles Dickens
Pages: 104
Publisher: Bethany House Publishers

Cruel miser Ebeneezer Scrooge has never met a shilling he doesn’t like...and hardly a man he does. And he hates Christmas most of all. When Scrooge is visited by his old partner, Jacob Marley, and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Yet to Come, he learns eternal lessons of charity, kindness, and goodwill.

What a lovely book! Me and my friend Maria have read this book aloud to each other, with candles and hot chocolate, we really got up the Christmassy mood, and this book only intensifies the atmosphere to the max!
This is a true Christmas book that should be read a bit at a time every day until Christmas Eve. This is how a classic should be! No wimpy love story here no (Pride and Prejudice), but it's more about the unconditional love we spread over this festive period. Charles Dickens, you know your thing.

Yours truly

The Perks of Being a Wallflower REVIEW +

The Perks of Being a Wallflowerby

Paperback213 pages
Published February 1st 1999 by MTV Books and Pocket Books

Charlie is a freshman. And while he's not the biggest geek in the school, he is by no means popular. Shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years yet socially awkward, he is a wallflower, caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it. Charlie is attempting to navigate his way through uncharted territory: the world of first dates and mixed tapes, family dramas and new friends; the world of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, when all one requires is that perfect song on that perfect drive to feel infinite. But Charlie can't stay on the sideline forever. Standing on the fringes of life offers a unique perspective. But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor.

Let's begin with some thoughtful quotes.

“I think that if I ever have kids, and they are upset, I won't tell them that people are starving in China or anything like that because it wouldn't change the fact that they were upset. And even if somebody else has it much worse, that doesn't really change the fact that you have what you have.”

“I would die for you. But I won't live for you.”

“So, I guess we are who we are for alot of reasons. And maybe we'll never know most of them. But even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.”

Those are just some things that came up in the book that made me stop, put the book down and just reflect. Stephen has the most brilliant brain, he seems to hold the answer to all of lifes question, his characters are well thought, and nothing that happens in the book happens without a reason. every chapter makes you just crawl under the blankets.

Chbosky seems like a person that studies everything around him, he describes relationships and put things into words in such a beautiful way,

Patrick to Charlie “He's a wallflower. You see things. You keep quiet about them. And you understand.” that is the way I would like to describe Stephen Chbosky.

You see, nothing really BAAAM happened in this book. Charlie was just living his life as well as he could. But he saw everything in a different way, and he was very honest in his letters, which made everything that happen't in the book quite interesting because Charlie was a real thinker. He got upset a lot, he cried, he loved, he was humble, and he put other people first. always first.
We got to see the world from a thinkers eyes.
but the best thing was that I truly felt like I was in Charlies head. Chbosky can do that to you, he knows the power words beholds.

The thing with Charlie is that you never know where he will end up.
He does and says the unexpected thing, but the more you think about the more logical his actions become.
Charlie thinks so much that his own thughts kind of takes over him.
This could be really scary, Charlie would say things that would make you close to tears, and not just him, but all the other characters were just as beautifully written. Every character was so unique, I came to really like Patrick because of his mental power. He didn't take crap, but in the end we are all human and a human can only bear as much as a human can bear.
5/5

The Hobbit / Hobbiten REVIEW +

The Hobbit
English Review
By J.R.R. Tolkien

Paperback351 pages
Published August 15th 2002 by Houghton Mifflin

This book was recommended to me by a boy with nice hair that you just wan't to braid, and because he had nice hair I decided to give this book a try.

I have this rule which i know a lot of other people have too "read at least 100 pages before putting it down"

I did and I just could not finish the book, so because of that this review will be short.
The thing with this book is that It was good. I loved the language, words were used in a marvelous way, great main character that seemed very nice and humble.

everything was there for me to like, I shuld have liked the story but I just... didn't.
I don't know if it was because so much happent so fast I felt like I couldn't cope, or if it was because I just could not see the point of finishing this book. during the time I read this book I found myself looking longingly at my bookshelf, just wanting to read something else but this book.

However, I must point out that I think this is a fantastic children's book and I wish I had read it a few years before, or had someone read it to me as a bedtime story or something, I think I would have appreciated the giants, trolls and dwarves more then.

Bilbo Baggins, a simple Hobbit, never asked for adventure. It literally came knocking on his door -- 13 dwarves (Tolkien's spelling with the "v") and Gandalf the wizard show up to tea to hire Bilbo as a thief in their quest to reclaim a hoard of treasure. It's stashed far away and guarded by a fierce dragon, Smaug. Bilbo will have to cross the Misty Mountains -- troll and goblin country -- and the untamed wilds of Mirkwood, where straying from the path can be deadly. In exchange, he gets an even share of the treasure and quite a story to tell. But is one little hobbit really up for such a big adventure?
